He served in the National Guard in Washington from 1969 to 1975. Jack and Norma then settled in Garrett County, where he held the position of Southern Middle School Principal until his retirement in 2006.
Jack was a loving father and enjoyed raising his family in Garrett County while being involved in the community and taking up many hobbies such as skiing, sailing, running, biking and golfing.
After retirement, Jack and Norma moved to Leland and enjoyed the moderate weather and spending time with many friends playing cards, golfing, playing pickleball and flying model airplanes.
Jack leaves behind his two sons, their wives, and four grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Nathan Cartier and wife Heather with grandchildren Alyssa, Tyler and Mackenzie; also Andrew John and wife Leslie with grandson Ethan.
