CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Two new members may be appointed to the Harrison County opioid settlement committee during the Harrison County Commission meeting Wednesday.
The potential new members include Harrison Prosecuting Attorney Rachel Romano and Harmony Recovery Center Senior Business Development Specialist Jason Nicholson.
“Anytime we can get the prosecuting attorney on a board, you jump on it. It’s quite a compliment that she would do that for us,” said Commissioner Patsy Trecost.
Commissioner David Hinkle said the potential new members will “bring some more to the table to make sure we get the money spent right.”
Also during Wednesday’s meeting, a second reading and public hearing will be held on an ordinance that would prohibit the use of motorized vehicles on the Harrison County Rail Trail.
The ordinance was initially moved forward at a January meeting of the commission.
Although a permit fee has been considered for those who utilize the trail to access their property, the ordinance up for reading does not make mention of the fee. The specifics of such a fee will be considered at a later time, Commission President Susan Thomas said.
Commissioners also will consider authorizing an application for a state Department of Homeland Security State and Local Cybersecurity Grant to be used to upgrade the Harrison/Taylor 911 Center firewall, as well as improve cybersecurity at the county’s General Services Building.
The firewall, known as “WatchGuard,” according to Thomas, is already in use at the General Services Building to safeguard county employee emails. The grant would be used to extend the county’s license for use of the product, she said.
Per the agenda, the grant would provide up to $100,000 with a 90/10 match, meaning the county would have to provide 10% of the total amount awarded, Thomas said.
Commissioners also will consider orders brought forward by County Clerk John Spires that list approved primary election workers, as well as workers who will handle early voting at Meadowbrook Mall and the General Services Building, Thomas said.
Also Wednesday:
— The commissioners will consider a funding request of $16,500 from the Clarksburg History Museum to pay for placing and marketing historical markers, as well as supplementing the salary of an AmeriCorps worker for one year.
Representatives of the museum have requested money to place 16 historical markers, the first set of which was funded by the city of Clarksburg, according to the funding request.
This is a “very large request” relative to the requests the commission usually receives, Hinkle said.
Due to the size of the request, all the commissioners said they would need to discuss it among themselves at the meeting Wednesday.
— The commissioners will consider a funding request of $3,000 from the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department to pay for entertainment, concession supplies and prizes for the VFD’s annual homecoming celebration.
“We did it last year. I don’t know why we wouldn’t do it again,” Hinkle said.
