SHINNSTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Shinnston City Council will discuss roadway and sidewalk improvements during a work session meeting Monday.
Council will plan its annual paving schedule, outlining the roads that need work.
“Over the past five years, we’ve done a lot of streets,” said council member Patrick Kovalck. “Close to 10 streets per year. City streets are in pretty good condition, (but) there are a few still that need finished.”
Council keeps a running list of the roads that need paving for the following year, said City Manager Tori Drainer.
“We do the paving schedule every year to see what needs fixed,” she said.
In conjunction with road paving, the city will use excess funds to repair sidewalks downtown.
“We are down on the amount of streets that need repaired, so we are going to use funds to fix sidewalks,” Drainer said.
Paving is set to begin in June once the weather is dry, Drainer said.
Also Monday, council members will consider:
— Shinnston properties available for the Harrison County Delinquent Tax Lien Sale.
“I believe there are 18 Shinnston properties, and I am going to give them to council to see if any would be beneficial to city,” Drainer said.
— demolition of fire-burned structures.
City council will discuss potential grants that could be used toward the demolition of fire-burned structures, Drainer said.
