Editor’s Note: The following is a part of a series of profiles on candidates running in contested Harrison County primaries in the upcoming May 14 primary election.
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Jo Plybon of Mount Clare is running for the Southern district seat on the Harrison County Board of Education.
Biography:
“Jo Plybon, registered nurse for 41 years, currently employed at Integrative Wellness in Bridgeport, West Virginia. I’ve been married for 34 years to my husband Mark and have three daughters and four grand babies. We currently reside in Mount Clare, West Virginia, where we call home.”
What is the greatest issue facing Harrison County Schools currently, and how will you address it?
“There are several important issues within the Harrison County school system that need to be addressed. One issue: That we need to get back to the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic for our children. Politics have engulfed our school system and have affected our children in many ways, from indoctrination through required curriculum materials. We need real education and not indoctrination.”
What makes you the best candidate for the role?
”I will shine the light on the failures of the system and do everything in my power to do what’s best for our children. I believe I’m the best candidate for this role as I have had firsthand experience with my own children in the school system. I believe parents have the right for transparency within the public education system. I truly believe we need God, family and freedom back into our school.”
