CLARKSBURG W.Va. (WV News) — A new food business based in downtown Clarksburg revolves around the idea of offering healthy alternative meals to residents of Harrison County.
Dish’d Design Co., a meal prep company owned by Clarksburg native Avery Williams, offers custom meals based off client goals.
“I offer a full custom meal prep service,” Williams said. “I can make any meals based off the client’s goals — gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan or high protein. I specialize in making it all custom per order, per person.”
The salmon poke bowl, grilled chicken pesto pasta and buffalo chicken wrap are popular menu items, she said.
Williams started cooking as a hobby, preparing meals for family and friends during the pandemic.
“I was doing it during COVID when my college was online,” she said. “I started this in my kitchen at home, and it just got to be too big; I didn’t have the space.”
Since then, Williams has started her business, outgrown her kitchen and now prepares meals in downtown Clarksburg at the Progressive Women’s Association, which has a large commercial kitchen.
Williams fulfills anywhere from 20 to 50 orders per week.
A commercial fridge is also located at WV Fitness, where anyone in the public can purchase a premade meal.
“I’ve always had a love and passion for cooking, health and nutrition,” Williams said. “I’ve grown up in a big Italian family and have always been around food. I learned how to cook that way, but also I have had interest in health and nutrition and making healthy alternatives that still taste good.”
Williams is a graduate of Robert C. Byrd High School. She then graduated from Fairmont State University with a Bachelor of Science in exercise physiology and nutrition.
“I’m really happy to provide this service and healthy options in this area because that is where we are lacking,” Williams said. “Everyone is busy, and it is hard to take the time to go to the store, prep and cook.”
Williams plans to take her business to a subscription-based service.
With that, “you get minimal amount of orders a week or reoccurring each month, and along with that will come deals,” she said.
Along with weekly orders, Dish’d Design Co. will cater for weddings, graduation parties and baby and bridal showers, Williams said.
“I am moving more towards the catering and bigger orders for businesses, deliveries and lunches,” she said.
“Just helping people alone is the reason why I do it. I love to be able to provide this area with healthy options and quick grab and go,” Williams said. “Every day I wake up so excited to create new things and do big events for people.”
